19th Century Mediterranean Terracotta Olive Jar with Green Glazed Rim
An authentic 19th Century Mediterranean terracotta olive jar with a beautifully weathered surface and remnants of its original green glazed decoration around the rim and handles. Traditionally used for storing olives and olive oil, the vessel displays the character acquired through decades of use, with mineral deposits, worn glaze and an exceptional naturally aged patina.
The hand-thrown body features subtle incised decoration around the shoulder, twin loop handles and a generous rounded form that makes it equally suited as a decorative floor vase or statement interior piece. The combination of exposed terracotta, surviving emerald green glaze and timeworn finish gives the jar an understated rustic elegance.
Today it works beautifully styled with dried branches or simply displayed on its own where its sculptural form can be appreciated.
