Antique Ebonised Cushion Frame Wall Mirror with Gilt Slip, c.1900
A handsome antique rectangular wall mirror dating to around the turn of the 20th century, featuring a substantial ebonised timber cushion frame with a narrow gilt-toned inner slip.
The deep, architectural profile gives the mirror considerable presence, while the restrained black finish makes it particularly versatile within both traditional and contemporary interiors. Years of use have created an attractive timeworn surface, with chips and areas of wear revealing the lighter timber beneath the dark finish.
The frame is believed to date from approximately c.1890–1910. The mirror plate appears to have been replaced at a later date, giving a clear and highly usable reflection while retaining the character of the earlier frame. The rear backing and hanging fittings are also later.
A strong decorative piece with a wonderfully understated, slightly austere character.
