Large 20th Century Arched Classical Maiden Painting

A large arched decorative painting depicting a classical maiden holding a mirror, with a pink rose tucked into her hair and a second bloom at her feet. The figure is painted in soft stone-like tones, with flowing drapery across her hips, set against a rich golden ochre marble-effect background.

The rounded arch and sculptural treatment give the piece an architectural presence, while the roses introduce a gentle touch of colour. Visible canvas texture, pronounced mottling and areas of surface wear contribute to its distinctive appearance.

Dating provisionally to the late 20th century, probably the 1980s–1990s, the painting is on canvas over an arched wooden support. At 133 cm tall, it makes a substantial focal point in a hallway, living room or bedroom.

Good Original Condition

Vintage condition with pronounced mottling, dark spotting, surface rubbing and scattered areas of paint wear. Small areas of colour loss are visible on the figure and elsewhere across the surface, together with wear around the edges.

The reverse shows staining, discolouration and fraying to the canvas margins, particularly along the lower edge, with rust staining around some fixings. Some surface variation appears to form part of the decorative finish.
